PUTRAJAYA: The Malaysian Bar states that its peaceful walk to the Prime Minister's Office (PMO) aims to defend judicial integrity, and is not about politics.
Its president Mohamad Ezri Abdul Wahab said the walk was organised in defence of judicial independence.
"Let it be seen clearly this march is in defence of judicial independence, rooted in law and not politics.
"It is for integrity, transparency, and the preservation of judicial independence," he said in his speech in front of the Palace of Justice on Monday (July 14).
He said it is the Bar's duty to defend the judiciary and its system when its credibility is under question.
In their memorandum, the Bar calls for judicial leadership positions to be filled as soon as possible and for the establishment of a Royal Commission of Inquiry (RCI) to investigate possible judicial interference.
Police have also launched an investigation into the alleged leak and dissemination of what is believed to be confidential minutes from a JAC meeting.
The group started marching to the PMO at about 2.30pm on Monday, led by Mohamad Ezri.
