President Donald Trump’s so-called “big, beautiful bill” passed a vote in the Senate Tuesday after lengthy debate and persuasion by GOP leaders.
It’s a win for the president, though the fate of the legislation in the House of Representatives — where Republicans have a slim majority — remains uncertain. Trump has asked Congress to pass the legislation by July 4, but some lawmakers’ demands could slow the process down.
As the Senate worked to pass the bill, Trump spent the day in Florida touring what he and his supporters are referring to as “Alligator Alcatraz,” a temporary immigrant detention facility located in the Everglades.
