Nepal: President, Army Chief, and Gen Z Leaders to Hold Talks on Interim Government.

Negotiations are set to take place today between President Ram Chandra Paudel, the Nepali Army chief Ashokraj Sigdel, and Gen Z youth representatives to decide the leadership of an interim government amid ongoing political turmoil. According to sources, Gen Z protest representatives have finalised former Chief Justice Sushila Karki as their sole nominee for the post of interim Prime Minister.

Gen Z discussion with Nepali Army included the system of directly elected executives, the election of the federal parliament to include the Gen Z generation, and the investigation of the assets of all officials who held public office after 2046 BS, that is 1989 AD. Discussions were held on issues including judicial investigation of corruption cases and the need to make arrangements to prevent MPs from becoming ministers.

Meanwhile, CPN (Maoist Centre) Chairman and former Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ has released a detailed 10-point press statement outlining his party’s official position on the ongoing Gen Z-led movement, extending solidarity while calling for restraint and an independent judicial investigation into the violence. Calling for calm and dialogue, Prachanda urged citizens to avoid destruction of public and private property while expressing readiness for his party to back progressive change, good governance, and inclusive democracy.

 

The Maoist leader emphasised that Gen Z’s agenda aligns with his party’s long-standing demands for directly elected executive leadership, property investigations of top officials, and stronger measures for inclusion and social justice. He reiterated that the movement should remain within the constitutional and democratic framework, warning that unconstitutional exits could benefit regressive forces.
