Israeli forces have uncovered a major Hamas tunnel system directly beneath hospital complexes in Gaza City, exposing the group’s repeated exploitation of humanitarian sites for military purposes.
In a precise operation, troops working alongside the Israel Security Agency (Shin Bet), the Intelligence Directorate, and the elite Yahalom combat engineering unit located a tunnel shaft next to the Jordanian Hospital complex. The shaft led to an underground weapons-manufacturing workshop.
The network spans approximately 1.5 kilometers and includes weapons production rooms, meeting halls, and living quarters for Hamas platoon and company commanders. Intelligence suggests the tunnels were part of a Hamas military outpost. Additional searches uncovered another shaft beneath Hamad Hospital in Gaza City.

For years, Hamas has systematically built underground infrastructure beneath hospitals, turning civilian institutions into shields for its terrorist operations. The tunnels are reportedly used for weapons production, planning attacks, and sheltering senior operatives.
The IDF stressed that the Jordanian Hospital had no involvement or knowledge of the Hamas activity near its premises. Israeli forces continue to map the underground network and are expanding operations to other suspected sites.
This discovery underscores Hamas’s ongoing strategy of embedding military assets within civilian areas, deliberately putting civilians at risk.
